Eagle Wrestlers Headed To Regionals

Surry Central wrestlers will travel to Piedmont High School in Monroe, NC on Friday and Saturday for the Western Regionals. They will leave at 10:30 on Friday morning, and wrestling will begin at 5:00. If you are one of the unlucky wrestlers overweight, your bus ride will be spent jogging in place on the bus to lose weight; and if not, you get to chill out. After wrestling is over on Friday, they will spend the night in a hotel and mentally prepare for Saturday morning.  For each weight class, there is an individual 16-person tournament.  Win your match, and you advance. If you lose, you are eliminated from 1st and 2nd place contention.  The top 4 in each weight class go to the State competition.

The wrestlers attending regionals are Wes Brown, Bryant White, Kevin Pack, Nathon Bautista, Mason Snow, Uriel Secundino, Raymond Dance, Ryan Stirewalt, Christopher Craddock, Nick Coe, Humberto Moreira, and Calvin Inman. We would like to wish all the wrestlers good luck, and represent the Golden Eagles well.

Be sure to follow Surry Central on Twitter and Facebook for match results.

Surry Central Indoor Track

The Indoor Track team finished their season a few days ago.  They ran several meets this year at North Stokes and Mount Tabor.  The runners were separated into two categories, sprinters and long distance.  Jessica Snow, Alexis Senter and Elizabeth Epperson were the only sprinters on the team.  All other 12 teammates were long distance runners.

Indoor Track is interesting because there is no conference championship and no conference matches.  The only team with an indoor track team in our Northwest 1A/2A conference is North Stokes.  Also, there is not a typical first, second, or third place finishing order in the events.  Runners run to beat their own personal records (PRs) and also to prepare for Track season which comes in the Spring.  Several of the girls achieved PRs during the course of the season including Elizabeth Eppereson and Jessica Snow in the sprints and Danielle Dunn in the long distance races.

Members of the Surry Central Swim Team will be participating in the NCHSAA 1A/2A West Regional Finals Swim Meet on Saturday. The meet will be held at the Huntersville Family Fitness & Aquatic Center and will begin around 4:30pm. Coach Dara Kowalcik said, "the relay Girls team for the 200m & 400m will have the best chance to make it to state." The relay team is Karmen Gardner, Karie McLamb, Hannah Odum, and Christine Hawks.

The best chance to advance from the Boys team will be Chase Needham in the 100m breststroke. "I am very pleased about his year, we have only lost to Mt.Airy, and these seniors have been swimming together for the past 4 years now," states Coach Kowalcik. This is her 3rd year as Head Coach of the Surry Central Golden Eagles swim team.
