Some things just seem to come naturally to people. Basketball and Ethan Wilmoth together make a perfect pair, and he has thrived in his destined niche. Throughout the years Ethan has achieved numerous feats in the sport, but none can possibly compare to having the most points in Surry Central High School history. He sits alone at the top now, after surpassing former great Chad Casstevens who was the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s 2002 1-A Player of the Year; he is the only alumnus to receive it. That puts Ethan in much-esteemed company. None of this could’ve been done of course without the never-ending support of his parents, Myles and Libby Wilmoth, and his sister Marlee, who also has a very bright future at Surry Central. What sets Ethan apart from an average player is his almost surreal instinct towards the game. He seems to always know the right moves to make at the right time. There is a determination deep down in his core that simply radiates when he hits the hardwood. You can just see in his eyes he has the will to win at any cost. Coach Ken Eiswald would have to agree, and everything during a game flows through Ethan. The game is definitely more exciting when he is on the court and he has enlivened a spirit in our fans that makes every game a must-see event. It’s almost like the fans expect greatness out of him. But why wouldn’t we? 1,256 points don’t come easy. The awesome thing is that he’s not finished. His legacy will live on even after he graces the court the final time. Arguably the best player ever to attend the home of the Golden Eagles, the basketball wizard Ethan Wilmoth is right where he needs to be, soaring at the top.
