DOBSON - The Golden Eagles Men's Soccer team (19-3-1) defeated Central Davidson 2-1 in overtime Wednesday. The Golden Eagles took the lead at 23:20 of the first half with a goal by Raymundo Calderon. Central Davidson tied it up at 12:10 of the 1st half 1-1. Neither team scored in the second half of regulation, but it was still a very exciting half of soccer. Both teams had great chances to score throughout, but neither team could capitalize on their opportunities, keeping the fans anxious and on their feet throughout the 2nd half. Possibly the Eagles best look came in the last minute of regulation but the shot sailed just high. Finally, at :23 of the first 10-minute OT period, Donnis Barrios found the net to give the Golden Eagles a 2-1 advantage heading into the final 10-minute OT period. Surry Central was able to stop a couple of late Spartan rushes to hold on for the victory. The Golden Eagles now advance to the quarter-final round and will play at Salisbury (21-1-1) on Saturday. Coach Blake Roth commented, "Everyone played great for us, and we had great support by our fans. We can't wait for the game on Saturday in Salisbury."
