Golden Eagles Finish a Memorable Basketball Season

This was a season of Hoops to remember at Surry Central, full of many exciting contests that enlivened the core of the student body and the Golden Eagle family.  The Golden Eagles persevered throughout the season, winning many tough matchups before finally falling 70-47 to Cuthbertson last Friday.  That shows the level of fortitude and teamwork this team displayed, making it to Sweet Sixteen action.  The Golden Eagles finished at 18-11 overall, and 9-7 in conference play.  Senior Ethan Wilmoth was awarded the Northwest Conference’s Player of the Year award, and finished his astounding high school career with 1732 points after eclipsing the school record for points earlier in the year.  Also earning All-Conference recognition was senior Gabe Leftwich who averaged 9.7 points per game.  Junior Colby Chilton made the Northwest Conference All-Tournament Team and also received an Honorable Mention All-Conference.  Sophomore Zach Wilmoth also received an Honorable Mention All-Conference averaging 11.2 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game.  The Golden Eagles wave farewell to seniors Ethan Wilmoth, Gabe Leftwich, Jacob Hammond, and Eric Green.  Their hard work kept the Eagles flying high all season.  There are many reasons to be optimistic for next year when the Golden Eagles hit the court again, in hopes of making another memorable late season run in the State Playoffs.
